TEAM NEWS

From Jacqui Monahan (SKI TUNING) January 17, 2008
Great job this weekend!  Hopefully some of you realized that tuning can pay off.

Tuning is this Thursday (1/17) at my house (15430 SW Heron Ct. Beaverton, OR 97007) starting at 6PM and going to around 8:30 or 9PM (whenever we finish dinner and tuning - be at my house by 8 or 8:30 please).  Bring the skis you plan on using this Saturday at Ski Bowl!  If you bring 2 pairs of skis please expect to wait until everyone is done with their first pair. (My Dad will be available for help again.)

For tuning this week we will also be having a team pasta feed.  It will be like regular tuning but when people are done with their skis (or while they are waiting to tune their skis) they can come inside for a bite to eat and we will have either previous state or metro videos or a Warren Miller film playing.  My Mom is making pasta with a red meat sauce and alfredo sauce and the Hausmann's are bringing a green salad and french bread.  We will also have drinks and a dessert.  If you are like Sam Campbell and have dietary needs, please let me know and I can help you work around those.

Hope to see you there!

~Jacqui Monahan

Post Willamette Pass race comments from coach Mailey

Hey All,

1.  Awesome job this past weekend at Willamette Pass!  From what I hear, there were some poorly set delays and tricky gates on both courses and possibly a few that were set way too tight!  Oh well, that's ski racing, we just have to adjust and keep on skiing.

2.  Southrige Girls Varsity got 1st Place!!!  I believe that is our first GS win in three years or since the 2005 team, so well done girls!  We had two in the top 5 with Jacqui and Sam, and our other girls were in the top 18 at 15, 17, 18.  That's darn good.

3.  Southridge Boys Varsity got 4th Place!  That is a good start to the league season, keeps us in the hunt for State.  Only the top 3 teams go to State this year, so we have to stay up in there.  I will say this, usually, when you have a boy in 3rd, 10th, 11, 12th, you usually finish in the top 2 or 3 teams.  But the the league is super competitive this year, so we have our work cut out for us.  Well done, I believe this is David Sampson's first top 10 finish and first top 12 for Kevin and Jack.  Ryan scored his first varsity point and McGirr was one spot away from scoring a point!

4.  Our independent racers had an up and down weekend.  Per would have been in the top 15 had he not been tricked by one of those tricky delay gates.  Eric and Cameron finished well but had some bobbles and it sounds like Sean had a hard time with the 1st run, could be wrong, I will find out at dryland today.

5.  Please pay for your sweatshirts this week, Southridge $32.00, Aloha $39.00.  Please pay, make check payable to Aloha-Southridge Ski Team

6. I am also needing one person to still pay for their team jacket, please do so if you can, as soon as you can.

7.  I need all sweatshirt payments by Tuesday 1/15!

8.  GS training this Wed. night at the Ski Bowl East, it looks like it will be a partly cloudy warm evening, should be fun.

9.  GS this Saturday at Ski Bowl, the big time now!  Reynolds Run and West Wall, should be great!

10.  My grandfathers funeral went well, long day, but a good celebration of his life.  Thanks for everyone who called me and left messages and emails, it was greatly appreciated.

Take care,

Coach Mailey

POST Cato race comments from coach Mailey:
Hey All,

1.  What a great start to the Season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I can't tell you all how proud I am of the way we skied on Saturday.  That was by far the best Cato Result and Race for the Aloha/Southridge/ISB/VC Ski Team as long as I have been here.  Everyone finished for the first time ever!  We had only one DQ, no big deal there, and only a couple had to hike, but otherwise, everyone made it to the bottom.

2.  Sweatshirts-I handed out the sweatshirts today to the people who made it to dryland practice.  Ayaka, Sean McDonald, Adam Tycksen, and Scott Vandervoort have to pick up your orders.

3.  Sweatshirt Cost:  -Southridge Shirts-$32.00/shirt.  So please pay accordingly
-Aloha Shirts-$39.00/shirt.  Same as above, if you ordered more than one, please pay accordingly.

4.  Metro Results Breakdown From Saturday:- We did really really well as a league.  3 out of the top 4 girls were from our league, and 5 out of the top 10 boys teams were from our league with two in the top 4.  Also, 2 in the top 3 for girls.

5.  I broke it down at practice today, but here goes:
-  We had our girls place 3rd, 8th, 9th, 13th, 20th, and 32nd in Metro.  (Jacqui, Sam, Rachel, Emily, Ayaka, Kayla)
-  We had our boys place 1st, 10th, 14th, 16th, 22nd, 29th in Metro (Steven, Sam, Kevin, David, Jack, Ryan)
-  All three VII Girls finished, and Rada made it down for only being on skis her 2nd time ever!
-  VII Boys team result was in there, with Dallin leading the charge, followed by Adam, John, Lucas, Spencer, Trenton, and Scott (DQ), no big deal on the DQ, I heard Scott was ripping!
-Cameron, Per, and Eric finished 100 (Per), 101 (Cameron), and Eric (107)!  That's pretty darn good for your first time in a varsity race!

6.  We are training GS this Wednesday night.  Remember, bus loads at 2:45pm and leaves by 3pm!  We will be training GS at Ski Bowl East.  It looks like it will be a cold night, so dress warm!

7. Our first Metro Race is this Saturday at Willamette Pass.  It is a GS Race down the frontside under the 6 person high speed chair.  This is a fun trip and usually one heck of a race. It sounds like quite a group is heading down Friday night to Oakridge.

8.  On Another Note...My grandfather on my mother's side passed away this afternoon during practice at 2:48pm.  I mentioned this to the team this afternoon, at that time I did not know he had passes.  With that said, I will be in and out of town this week helping with funeral plans, etc.  I plan on being at training on Wednesday night, and will submit the race order on Thursday based off our time trials on Wednesday night.  I will not be at work tomorrow, Tuesday, I will be in Seattle at the funeral home and then home Wed, and back up Thursday afternoon.  The funeral is planned for Saturday in Auburn, Washington.  This means that I will have to miss our race this Saturday.  Don't worry, you have two ex-head coaches in Robin and Ryan, plus Mindy has been around forever and Clint aint no slouch, plus Jason might be able to help out, so you will be in good hands!  Robin will be head coach for the day and in charge.  Ryan will slip with the boys and handle them, Robin and and Mindy will take care of the girls inspection and top of course.  We will have either Clint or Jason at the bottom relaying times and course reports.  I will be back in action next week, but really not out much this week except for raceday.  I'm very sorry I have to miss the race, I am a pall bearer and have to be at my grandfathers funeral.

9.  Prepare for Time Trials on Wednesday night.

10.  Jackson turns 8 months tomorrow 1/8!  He's crawling now and saying Dada, its pretty cool.

Take care all,

Kids, enjoy every moment with your grandparents, they are great people with a ton of knowledge and love for you!

Coach Mailey

December 8-9
We had our first team on-hill training at Timberline.  We broke into different groups, did some freeskiing, some race drills, and skied a few GS gates/brushes up on Palmer on Sunday before the weather rolled in.
